About Julie McDermott
My name is Julie and I have been an Occupational Therapist for 27 years. I currently work at RHAM Middle and High School in Hebron, CT. Three years ago, I took a webinar course on The Irlen Method. This technique was founded by Helen Irlen. Helen was a school psychologist and noticed several students were struggling with reading due to significant visual perceptual challenges including distortions within the text. I was so curious and intrigued, I immediately signed up to become a Certified Screener. In 2018, I started my own clinic Irlen Center CT, LLC and am humbled to say that all of my clients have found this method/tool “life changing” and has given them hope.
In the Summer of 2022 I went to the Irlen Institute in California for extensive training. I am now a Certified Irlen Diagnostician and can help with the process of tinting glasses.
I find this job very rewarding and I feel honored that I have helped people with this frustrating and at times debilitating syndrome.
